Category: 12 Inch Vinyl Record

The Iron Giant is a modern animation classic with a beautiful, sympathetic score by Michael Kamen. This set expands the program to 64 minutes of score with alternates and rare demos - including an unrealized song, "Souls Don't Die," based on Kamen's theme, performed with Eric Clapton. The package is a marvel, with a pull tab opening the robots die-cut eyes on the front jacket. Depending on which inner sleeve is behind the cover, the reveal is different.

Jacob ★★★★★

I’d forgotten how much of Kamen’s score exists beyond the film’s famous cues—this deluxe set’s 64 minutes finally gives the quieter, more mournful passages room to breathe, and the alternates and demos feel like a genuine peek into the composer’s workshop. The vinyl itself is quiet and well-pressed,

The 64-minute runtime on this deluxe edition is exactly what I wanted—the alternates and demos give the score so much more depth. It arrived well-packed and sounds warm on my turntable. My only small wish is for a liner note booklet to go with it.

Samuel ★★★★☆

The sound quality on this 12-inch vinyl is superb—the orchestral warmth of Kamen’s score really comes through. I just wish the alternate takes were more distinctly labeled on the sleeve, as I had to reference the tracklist online to tell them apart. Still, a must-have for any fan of the film.
