Further Ahead: Live In Finland (1964-1969) is a collection of never-before-released recordings of jazz piano icon Bill Evans, captured live in Finland in the mid-to-late 1960s.
An official Elemental Music release in collaboration with the Bill Evans Estate, Further Ahead is a major discovery of recordings being released for the very first time as a limited and numbered 2 LP set on 180g vinyl. The beautifully designed gatefold set includes rare photos; liner notes by acclaimed author, journalist and Evans scholar, Marc Myers – plus interviews and statements from Evans’ longtime trio mates: bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell, and others.
Mastered for vinyl by Matthew Lutthans at the Mastering Lab and released exclusively for Record Store Day 2025.

Listening to this set feels like stumbling onto a lost chapter of Bill Evans’s story—the live energy is raw and immediate, with the piano tone captured with surprising warmth for 1960s tapes. The track selection spans five years and shows how his trio’s chemistry kept shifting, which makes it a real

The pressings are clean and quiet, which matters for a live album, and the soundstage really lets the trio breathe. My only gripe is the packaging feels a bit bare for a set of never-before-released tapes, but the music itself is a fantastic listen.
