Senza Sapere Niente di Lei (1969, Luigi Comencini) is one of the first scores composed by Ennio Morricone for a Giallo film, just ahead of the great season of the cult Italian thriller genre forged by Dario Argento. The soundtrack perfectly mirrors the philosophy behind the Morricone Segreto series, not only for it's extraordinary dark-tinged and psychedelic vibes, but also because of the rarity of the score, which has surprisingly remained unreleased on vinyl (with the exception of two tracks included on a 1980 CAM anthology which is now pretty impossible to find). With "Senza Sapere Niente di Lei," Morricone composed one of his most dreamy and ethereal scores with a sweet and delicate theme unfolding in a lullaby to the rhythm of a waltz and and interpreted in multiple keys: from lounge-jazz to experimental music. The final result is a sensual and suave sound that matches well with the quintessential morbid style of Giallo cinema and the film's plot: During winter-time in Milan, a young lawyer (Philippe Leroy) meets a girl with a mysterious past (Paola Pitagora), falling in love with her and inevitably heading towards irreparable consequences. Timothy ★★★★★

The pressing is pristine and completely silent between tracks, which really lets Morricone's eerie strings and haunting vocal melodies shine. I’ve been hunting for this 1969 Giallo score for years and the RSD23 edition does it justice—so glad it’s finally in my collection.

The sleeve arrived with a small crease on one corner, which is a bit annoying for a collector, but the vinyl itself plays through cleanly with minimal surface noise. It’s a solid pressing of an interesting early Morricone score, though I wish the liner notes had more detail on the film.
