Following the compulsively layered collage of their Kill Rock Stars debut, Giddy Skelter, the duo felt inclined to evoke simpler times by foregrounding the performances instead of the production. They dropped Ableton & turned to attentive study of Carole Kaye & Hal Blaine. They enlisted Tim’s old bandmate from Joan of Arc, Theo Katsaounis, as a multi-instrumentalist, & hit the road to workshop the songs live, playing dozens of shows across the US & UK over a period of four months. & That set that they played each night became the foundation of their new album, Open ing Night.

Lily R. ★★★★★

The stripped-back production really lets the duo's vocal interplay shine through on this record. I was worried the bone vinyl would look plain, but the translucent finish actually gives it a nice, subtle glow. It’s become my go-to for late-night listening sessions.

Jason ★★★★★

The bone vinyl pressing has this beautiful marbled look that matches the stripped-back vibe perfectly. Dropping the needle on side A, the raw performances really shine through without studio polish getting in the way.

Harper ★★★★☆

The switch to a more stripped-back sound really lets the duo's performances breathe, which is a nice change from the layered production of their last one. The bone vinyl itself looks great and the pressing is clean, though I wish the gatefold had a bit more in the way of liner notes.
