Buddy Holly, with his Ivy League suits and horn-rimmed glasses, made for a very unusual rock star. No smouldering good looks, no flamboyant stage presence, but one could argue that Holly's influence on popular music far outweighs that of Elvis Presley, or Little Richard. Despite the fact that his career was so tragically curtailed when he died in the fateful plane crash on 3rd February 1959, in which The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens also perished, Holly remains as one of the most important and innovative songwriters and performers of the rock 'n' roll era.

Daniel ★★★★☆

The sound quality on these pressings is really clean, and it's great having all the singles from that short burst of genius in one set. I just wish the included liner notes were a bit more detailed about the recording sessions.

Amelia ★★★☆☆

I wish the track list included more of his lesser-known B-sides alongside the hits, though the 1956-59 singles here are a solid overview. The vinyl itself plays with a bit more surface noise than I’d like for a new record. It’s a decent collection for casual fans, but collectors might want something
