The globally influential animated film AKIRA, created by Katsuhiro Otomo, now has its soundtrack remixed and fully produced by Otomo himself in the vinyl release of AKIRA REMIX! Featuring remixes by Makoto Kubota (Les Rallizes Dénudés, Makoto Kubota & Sunset Gang), Yasuharu Konishi (Pizzicato Five), and Kuniaki Haishima (“KOWLOON'S GATE”)!

It has been over 35 years since the theatrical animated film “AKIRA,” directed by its original creator Katsuhiro Otomo, premiered in 1988. The unique, borderless sound of the soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi, led by Shoji Yamashiro, has continued to influence people both in Japan and abroad. The AKIRA OST was made available in 2016 in ultra-high-quality Hypersonic High-Resolution audio, and in 2017, the analog version "Akira - Symphonic Suite (Kokyo Kumikyoku AKIRA)," based on this Hyper High-Resolution audio, was released by Milan Records in the United States. In 2020, the "AKIRA 4K Remaster Set" was released on Blu-ray, featuring a 4K remaster and a 5.1-channel audio remix overseen by music director Shoji Yamashiro, with the 4K remaster version also being screened in theaters.

In 2022, Katsuhiro Otomo himself planned and produced the anthology “OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS,” which included the "Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Collection AKIRA Cel Exhibition" held in August and October 2023 at Mixalive Tokyo in Ikebukuro and Osaka PARCO Gallery. At this exhibition, remixed tracks from the AKIRA soundtrack were played exclusively, and in August 2024, these remixed tracks were released on CD as "AKIRA REMIX". For the remix version, Otomo personally selected three musicians: Makoto Kubota (formerly of Les Rallizes Dénudés, Makoto Kubota & Sunset Gang), Yasuharu Konishi (formerly of Pizzicato Five), and Kuniaki Haishima (known for “KOWLOON'S GATE”), who each handled the remixing.

This vinyl release of "AKIRA REMIX" uses the ultra-deep processed Hypersonic High-Resolution audio (192khz/24bit) mastered by Shoji Yamashiro of Geinoh Yamashirogumi, with cutting by Japan’s top cutting engineer, Tohru Kotetsu. It features the Hypersonic Sound, which activates the core human brain, a feature that could not be reproduced on conventional CDs. As with the CD release, Otomo himself supervised the artwork for this project. Enjoy a new auditory experience with this analog vinyl "AKIRA REMIX" mastered from ultra-deep Hypersonic High-Resolution audio, distinct from the CD version.

Penelope T. ★★★★★

The bass on this remix hits so clean through my setup, and the 192kHz/24-bit source makes the high end feel airy without any harshness. Shoji Yamashiro’s mastering gives it a warmth that suits the 2LP format perfectly, and the cut is dead quiet between tracks.

Amelia ★★★★★

The 192kHz/24-bit mastering really comes through on this Japanese pressing—the low end is absurdly tight and the highs have this airy clarity I wasn’t expecting from vinyl. Shoji Yamashiro’s cutting work makes the whole thing feel incredibly live, and the 2LP format gives the remix plenty of room to

Riley ★★★★☆

I was skeptical about vinyl being remastered from digital, but the 192khz/24bit source gives this pressing an incredible clarity that still feels warm. The gatefold jacket is sturdy and looks great on the shelf.
